GENERAL DATA
Genealogical research in Louisiana largely
depends upon time and area in which your ancestor lived. No official birth or death
records were kept here until AFTER 1914. Therefore, you will have to depend upon
census, municipal, courthouse, and (if your ancestors were Catholic) church records.
Through ongoing work with the Creole Center the society is
contributing to many databases of information that enhance the Creole genealogy search.
