Hello from the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center:
Enclosed is a packet of information regarding the Center's Creole 2000
activities. This mailout is being addressed to all members of our current mailing list.
Please forward this information on to any friends and family who did not receive a direct
mailing. We here at the Center are very excited about these upcoming activities and feel
you will be too.
As noted in the enclosed newsletter, we will be once again assisting with the
management and presentation of 7th annual presentation of the Creole Heritage Day
Celebration on January 22nd. Plans are still in the works for this event, but we can
announce two significant items that will add to festivities. The first item of interest
would be the theme which will be a dedication and remembrance of probably the first Creole
historian and preservationist ever, Mrs. Lee Etta Vaccarini Coutii of Cane River. The
second item will be the presentation of the Cane River Gators band whose music promises to
bring back memories that you forgot you had!!
The Researchers Symposium planned for March 11th will be the first of many. This
proposed round-table discussion between current researchers of Creole culture and history
with academic scholars and other professionals will helped to identify a multitude of
information. This information will then be compiled and made available through numerous
means as an aid to all individuals interested in the research and preservation of the
Creole culture.
The Family History Convention to be held in July, 2000 promises to be an event
that not only all Metoyer connections (direct descendants, family of, friends or just
heard the name before) but all Creoles will enjoy. The Center is in the process of
gathering information to be presented at this event. This information will be presented
along with the information submitted. We would like to take this opportunity to urge you
to complete the enclosed Family Individual Information sheets and return them as soon as
possible. The more submissions we have, the more information we can have available for
review and exchange. Please do not hesitate to make additional copies for yourself and
others - OR - call us and we will send more. Also, remember to register by returning your
enclosed postcard TODAY.
As the newsletter states, there will also be exhibit space available for anyone
wishing to display artifacts or other items of interest regarding the Metoyers or other
connected families of the Cane River Community. Everyone is invited to submit an
application for this exhibit space - this will be your opportunity to showcase YOUR family
for all to see.
If you have any questions regarding any of the CREOLE 2000 activities or need
additional information, please do not hesitate to call. We will be glad to assist you any
way that we can. Our goal is to document and preserve the Creole history and with your
help we will succeed. Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Janet Ravare-Colson Assistant Director
