The hosts of the reunion had mapped thefamily back to the early 1800s and what-do-you-know, we have Creole ancestors. Due to so much other mixing that had occured, the Creole had just gotten lost and forgotten. Thanks to our reunion's deep tracing of our heritage, the next generation WILL be familiar with who we are...and because so many of the children are now taking French and Spanish language classes, hopefully, they won't ever forget where they came from! |

I am a law professor at the University of Notre Dame and I am very interested in what you're doing with the Creole Heritage Center. I would like my children to remain connected to our Louisiana heritage as they grow up (we try to come down at least once a year) and I was happy to find your web site. Also, at Notre Dame we are very interested in Catholic cultural groups in American society. Until recently the focus has been primarily on the immigrant Catholic groups, but I would love to see the University develop some connections with Louisiana and its Creole/Catholic heritage. It is an essential part of the story of Catholics in the U.S. and it is quite different from the Northern immigrant experience. Notre Dame would also like to increase its visibility in Louisiana and Texas and has been recruiting more students, particularly minority students, from these states. Please keep me informed of your work and let me know if there is anything that Notre Dame might be able to contribute. |

I am very proud of my heritage and culture. We have been around a very long time, but man are we getting recognition. Creole people are the best people in the world. We are warm and comforting to strangers, yet we are tough, loyal and very good at taking care of ourselves and those we love. We don't care for transparent people our midst. We tell the best jokes in the world. It amazes me how people from other cities think of us. I have so many statements about how nice a Creole or Frenchman can be, but look out when they are crossed. |

This is the purpose of the Creole Heritage Center we are trying to establish at NSU. Did you see the reference to it in my update report link at the top of the page? We are very close to making this a reality - hopefully July. One of its main functions will be to identify, document and present all of our Creole colonies, statewide as well as nationwide. Since its just me right now contributing to this page, I would love to hear from others on information that should be shown. Any help will be appreciated. In fact that is one of the things on my agenda, i.e. get input from everyone on what they want included as part of the website for the Center, which is in the works. We are definetly open to any and all suggestions, especially interested in hearing from other Creole organizations. Please feel free to email me regarding this issue. Janet |

I never knew about the page but now that I do I will spread the word. We are a very large group of Creoles from Rayne, Louisiana. My Grandmother and Grandfather, Mary and Lawrence Rochon, had 19 kids and they have spread and now my generation are having their own Creole babies. Our culture is deep and I hope in the near future I can celebrate it with many other Creoles. This webpage is exactly some of what we need as a people in the year 1998. |

I to am creole, my ancestors came from the Hispanola islands and setteled in Louisiana, New York, Florida, and Rhode Island. I know alot about my history because family felt it was very important who we are where I come from. It kinda upsets me that alot of people associates everyone who comes from Louisiana as creoles. It makes me mad because I guess it's my culture and people don't understand the real meaning of creole. I can go on and on about my history and what was taught to me. The only thing I didn't understand is why don't yall have names like Ballare, Prudhomme, Roberts, Botley, Jacques, and Green in yalls directory? Please e-mail me back Thank You, Adrienne Ballare |

Roque Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Lodi, California Time: 1997-10-28 02:15:00 Comments: My lineage is from Roque's who are apparently traced back to France. I am told by my father that we are distantly related to a "Roque" who has been cannonized by the Catholic church and is known (obviously) as Saint Roque. My guess is that they (we) were part of the French Catholics who were exiled to Newfoundland (Acadia). There is very much that I do not know about "our" place in Creole heritage, and I would like to know more!! We are Roman Catholic, and my father is Earl Wilfred Roque Jr. His mother was Emilia Grammer (who was related somehow to an Oscar Grammer) and his father was Earl Wilfred Roque. My Mother is Cajun, but her maiden name is Narcisse. She has said that her father was Choctaw Indian, but she used to drink alot and has said quite a number of things which we usually dismissed. I certainly would like to know more, and I really hope to hear from you!! |
